V\u00e4n\u00e7i Stirnemann"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> V\u00e4n\u00e7i Stirnemann<\/strong> (born 21. April 1951 in Zurich, Switzerland) is a Swiss artist, author and curator. He has been active in performance art, copy art (Xerox art, electrography art), mail art and installation art. In 1997 he initiated the collaborative performance <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artist_Trading_Cards\">Artist Trading Cards<\/a>.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/republicdomain.net\/redada\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/10\/mvs2016-flo02-Kopie-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"mvs2016-flo02-kopie\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1503\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the 1980s, he became known to a wider public with art performances and installations. Until today, he made more than 180 international solo and collaborative performances. Stirnemann is also a curator of several performance events, exhibitions and editor of art catalogues and art magazines. Since 1983, he publishes the art edition &#171;copy-left&#187;. As a freelance journalist he published in different newspapers and magazines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>In 1986, Stirnemann was founder member of the performance groups <em>The Nomads<\/em> and <em>a&#8216; battery a&#187;<\/em>. In 1990, he initiated the international groups <em>Feed back and forth<\/em> and <em>POW.WOW<\/em>. Together with his group <em>The Nomads<\/em> he participated in the documenta 8 in Kassel, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Germany\">Germany<\/a>, in 1987 and in the Olympic Arts Festival in Calgary, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canada\">Canada<\/a>, in 1988. With a grant from the Canada Council he was Visiting Foreign Artist in Calgary in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>Since the early 1980, Stirnemann participated in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mail_art\">mail art<\/a> (correspondence art) and realised installations &#8211; many of them <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Copy_art\">copy art<\/a> projects. As a curator he organized and co-organized various art events and exhibitions, among them the &#171;Kunstszene Zurich&#187; 1991-92 with 260 participating artists and 18 exhibition locations. In 1997, he organized and curated the exposition &#171;FLUXUS AND BEYOND&#187; with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fluxus\">fluxus<\/a> artist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ben_Patterson\">Ben Patterson<\/a>. From 1988 onwards, Stirnemann made in coopertion with Gido Dietrich radio features about modern art for the alternative radio LoRa and multi media events under the name <em>PSEUDO \u2013 through &amp; through<\/em>. As a writer and composer of New Music he worked with musicians and composers, among them Michael Heisch and <em>Schimpfluch<\/em> (Rudolf Eb.er). In 1994, he opened the second-hand bookshop and gallery <em>INK art&amp;text<\/em> in Zurich which existed until 2006. From 2005\u20132016, he taught art and design at the University of Lucerne in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 1997, Stirnemann initiated the project <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artist_Trading_Cards\">Artist Trading Cards<\/a>, a <em>Collaborative Cultural Performance<\/em> which became a worldwide success. Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) have the same format as commercial <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trading_cards\">trading cards<\/a> but are original artworks or small series, signed and dated on the back-side and swapped between the participants &#8211; usually at regularly held trading sessions like they exist in about 30 cities worldwide today. Stirnemann himself has created more than 17&#8217;000 ATCs, of which he has exchanged more than 14&#8217;000. Between 1997 and 2004, he published 333 ATC editions with contributions from more than 800 people from 40 countries. Another ongoing project is his <em>subjective encyclopedia<\/em>, a collection of comments, images and everyday poetry, each entry assigned to a distinct lemma. About 500 (of more than 1000) lemmata are available on a website.<\/p>\n<p>Stirnemann was awarded grants and distinctions from many different institutions, among them the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Swiss_Federal_State\">Swiss Federal State<\/a>, the canton and the city of Zurich, the canton Aargau, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pro_Helvetia\">Pro Helvetia<\/a>, the Cassinelli-Vogel-Stiftung, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canada_Council\">Canada Council<\/a>, and the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation. His copy-art projects were supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xerox\">Xerox<\/a>. 2006-07 he was awarded a grant and a stay at the studio in Paris (Cit\u00e9 Internationale des Arts) from the city of Zurich.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>V\u00e4n\u00e7i Stirnemann (born 21.
